Jack Early Park

Jack Early Park began as an act of personal rebellion against the noise of the city. In the early nineteen sixties, an advertising executive named Jack Early lived nearby and grew frustrated with the relentless construction clamor of the emerging freeway system below. He sought refuge on a rocky, city-owned outcrop on the north slope of Telegraph Hill that was considered entirely unusable. To create his own sanctuary, he single-handedly began clearing the land and hauling buckets of water up the steep hillside to nourish the eucalyptus and Monterey pines he planted by hand.
