The long, white fence lining the property defines the edge of the old Bay Meadows racetrack. For seventy-four years, this ground hosted thoroughbred racing, drawing crowds that packed the grandstands to watch horses like Seabiscuit run. When the track finally closed in two thousand eight, the dirt surface disappeared under a dense grid of townhouses and office buildings. Now, only that perimeter fence and a few original palms remain to mark the space where thousands once gathered for the daily races.
