Bay Meadows Racetrack

The grandstand at Bay Meadows racetrack stands as a skeleton of white steel, marked by the long, sloping roofline that once sheltered thousands of horse racing fans. Opening in nineteen thirty-four, it became the oldest horse racing venue in California. Seabiscuit famously clinched his final victory here in nineteen forty, drawing a crowd that overflowed the fences. Trainers and jockeys filled the stables for seventy-four years until the final race took place in two thousand eight, leaving the track to vanish beneath residential development.
