The Venice Public Art Walls consist of three concrete structures standing right on the sand. They are the only legal graffiti walls in the city of Los Angeles where artists can paint without a permit. The site originated in two thousand when the city authorized these specific panels to curb unauthorized tagging on the nearby boardwalk. Now, artists check in with a volunteer attendant, claim a section of wall, and begin spraying. The paint layers grow several inches thick over the course of a week.
