Venice Skatepark

The Venice Skatepark sits directly on the sand, defined by a massive, smooth concrete landscape of bowls and street obstacles that draw skaters from across the globe. For decades, local skaters lobbied city officials for a dedicated space, arguing that the chaotic, dangerous street skating on the nearby boardwalk needed a solution. The park finally opened in two thousand nine, costing roughly two million dollars. Since then, it has served as a permanent home for the local skate culture that defined this neighborhood.
