Ropes Mansion and Garden

historic

The Ropes Mansion stands out for its delicate, Federal-style wood carvings and the elaborate, formal garden stretching out behind it. Built in seventeen twenty-seven, it became the home of the Ropes family for over two centuries. In eighteen ninety-four, Elizabeth Ropes passed away and left the house and her extensive collection of porcelain and glass to a board of trustees. They preserved the rooms exactly as she kept them, keeping her private world locked in place for the public to walk through.
