Generator Sound Art

The loft at five hundred forty-seven West twentieth street served as a sanctuary for experimental sound during the early nineteen nineties. From nineteen ninety-one to nineteen ninety-two, this space operated as New York City's first dedicated sound art gallery. It was a place where traditional music categories failed to apply, as artists used everything from analog electronics to repurposed household appliances to craft immersive sonic experiences. Visitors navigated an environment filled with unique installations that challenged the very definition of music.
