Times Square

Before it became the neon-drenched intersection you see today, this area was known as Longacre Square. It served as the center of New York City's horse and carriage industry, filled with stables, carriage factories, and blacksmith shops. The name was a deliberate nod to London's Long Acre district, which held a similar reputation for horse-trading in the nineteenth century.
