Grand Central Terminal

Grand Central Terminal was born from a tragedy. In nineteen-hundred and two, a catastrophic train collision in the nearby Park Avenue Tunnel killed seventeen people and injured thirty-eight others. This disaster forced the railroad to abandon steam power in favor of electricity, which allowed engineers to move the tracks underground and build the massive, multi-level terminal you see today. It opened its doors in nineteen-thirteen, quickly becoming the busiest train station in the world.
