Bryant Park

Before you reach the green expanse of the park, consider that the very ground beneath your feet was once a place of final rest. In the early nineteenth century, this entire area served as a potter's field, a public graveyard for the city's indigent. Before the lush lawns and manicured gardens you see today were ever conceived, the earth here held thousands of souls who were eventually exhumed and moved to Wards Island to make room for the city's expanding infrastructure.
