Women's Rights Pioneers Monument

The Women's Rights Pioneers Monument is the first statue in the history of Central Park to depict actual, non-fictional women. For over a century, the park featured sculptures of historical men and fictional female characters like Alice in Wonderland, but this bronze group finally broke what sculptor Meredith Bergmann called the bronze ceiling. Unveiled on August 26, 2020, to mark the centennial of the Nineteenth Amendment, the monument stands as a permanent reminder of the long struggle for voting rights in the United States.
