Neue Galerie New York

The building housing the Neue Galerie, located at the corner of Fifth Avenue and Eighty-Sixth Street, began its life in 1914 as a private residence for the industrialist William Starr Miller. The mansion was designed by the prestigious firm Carrère and Hastings, the same architects responsible for the main branch of the New York Public Library. Its design draws direct inspiration from the seventeenth-century Place des Vosges in Paris, bringing a distinct sense of French classical elegance to the Upper East Side.
