The building you see before you has undergone several radical transformations to reach its current form. It began its life in the early twentieth century as the cultural heart of the Italian Mission of Our Lady of Loreto, serving thousands of immigrants who had settled in the neighborhood. At that time, the complex included a school and a professional-grade auditorium where full-scale operas were staged for the local community. If you look closely at the facade, you can still see the name Loretto Auditorium etched into the stone, a relic of its original purpose as a vibrant gathering place for the parish.
