Museum of Sex

The Museum of Sex, located on the corner of Fifth Avenue and Twenty-seventh Street, serves as a dedicated archive for human sexuality. When founder Daniel Gluck first proposed the institution in 2002, he faced immediate rejection from the New York State Board of Regents, which denied the museum non-profit status on the grounds that the very concept made a mockery of the museum profession. Despite that initial official resistance, the site has operated for over two decades, curating a permanent collection of over twenty thousand artifacts. These items range from historical ephemera and rare film reels to technological inventions, all preserved because they represent the evolution of sexual norms across time and culture.
