Anthology Film Archives

The Anthology Film Archives sits inside a building that was originally constructed in 1919 as the Third District Magistrates Courthouse and jail. You can see the fortress-like architecture, designed by Alfred Hopkins to evoke the style of European prisons, which served as a municipal court for decades before its transformation. This location has a violent history, as it was the scene of a notorious gangland assassination in 1923, when the underworld figure known as Kid Dropper was murdered right outside its doors.
