Masonic Hall (Manhattan)

The Masonic Hall in the Flatiron District stands as the headquarters for the Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons of the State of New York. The complex actually consists of two interconnected buildings, with the north wing on 24th Street serving as the ceremonial home for dozens of local lodges, while the south wing on 23rd Street was historically designed to house commercial offices to provide steady income for the organization. Architect Harry Percy Knowles, who was himself a Master Mason, designed both structures to function as a unified entity, treating their towering facades like classical columns with a base, shaft, and capital.
