Daryl Roth Theatre

The Daryl Roth Theatre occupies a structure that was built as the Union Square Savings Bank between nineteen zero five and nineteen zero seven. Designed by the architect Henry Bacon, the building reflects the neoclassical style popular for banks at the time, intended to project stability and permanence with its grand white granite facade. Before it became a performance space, the building functioned as a financial institution for nearly a century until its closure in the early nineteen nineties. When producer Daryl Roth acquired the site in nineteen ninety-six, she repurposed the former banking hall into an unconventional theater, choosing to preserve the original architectural charm of the landmark property rather than erasing its history.
