Tolerance (Plensa) Statues

The Tolerance statues consist of seven large, kneeling figures crafted from white aluminum letters that spell out words like peace, respect, and love. Jaume Plensa designed these sculptures, and they arrived here in two thousand eleven to anchor the redesign of the intersection. At night, internal lights make the alphabet bodies glow against the sky. During the installation, some residents argued the figures looked like ghostly apparitions, while others claimed the letters created a necessary sense of quiet in the busy city.
