Eleanor Tinsley Park

Eleanor Tinsley Park stretches along the banks of Buffalo Bayou as a long, grassy ribbon of rolling hills and concrete trails. It exists because of a decades-long struggle to transform a neglected industrial waterway into a public space. In the nineteen seventies, the city councilwoman Eleanor Tinsley insisted that this flood-prone land become a park rather than a highway project. She faced intense opposition from developers, but her vision persisted, eventually reclaiming the muddy banks for walkers, cyclists, and the city skyline.
