Heritage Plaza features a distinctive stepped granite top that mimics the profile of a Mayan pyramid. Completed in nineteen eighty-seven, the building stands out against the surrounding glass towers because of its dark, polished stone exterior. It was originally built as the headquarters for Texaco, which anchored the space for years. Architects designed the jagged crown to respond to local zoning laws while creating a recognizable skyline silhouette that shifted the design language of downtown Houston away from traditional rectangular skyscrapers.
