The Kiam Building anchors the corner of Main and Preston with a facade of white terra cotta and oversized arched windows. Ed Kiam opened his jewelry store here in nineteen thirteen, moving from a smaller shop down the street. He occupied the ground floor, keeping a safe so heavy the floor beams required steel reinforcement during construction. Upstairs, the floors hosted offices and professionals, including the city's early dentists, who worked behind those expansive windows to catch the natural light flooding into Market Square.
