In the nineteen twenties, jewelry magnate John Sweeney commissioned the installation of a massive, ornate clock above the entrance. The clock stopped ticking at exactly eleven thirty-eight in the morning on a Tuesday in nineteen fifty-seven, and it remains frozen at that precise time today.
