Wells Fargo Plaza features a faceted, emerald green glass exterior that rises seventy-one stories above the street. When construction finished in nineteen eighty-three, it was the tallest building in the city. The architect, Richard Keating, designed the tower with sixty-four angles to deflect the intense Houston winds and to maximize the number of corner offices. During a massive flood in two thousand one, the underground tunnel system filled with water, forcing the building to close for months while crews repaired the basement generators.
