Market Square Park

Market Square Park is a jagged, triangular block defined by its brick paths and heavy wrought iron fencing. This spot served as the city’s original marketplace in the eighteen thirties. A succession of four different city halls rose and fell on this footprint until a fire gutted the final building in nineteen twenty-nine. Years later, a woman named Nina Vance brought theater to this space, and eventually, the city leveled the ruins to create the public park that sits here today.
