The JPMorgan Chase Tower stands as a five-sided prism of gray granite and reflective glass, rising one thousand and two feet above the Houston streets. It remains the tallest building in Texas. During the nineteen eighties, developers Pennzoil envisioned a centerpiece for the skyline that would abandon the typical box shape of downtown towers. They commissioned architects Philip Johnson and John Burgee to craft a structure that would capture the shifting light of the Gulf Coast on its angled, faceted surfaces.
