Clubhouse on South Temple

The Ladies Literary Club building on South Temple stands out for its weathered, cream-colored brick and the row of arched windows tucked beneath a heavy, overhanging roof. Built in nineteen thirteen, this clubhouse provided a dedicated space for women to host debates, study literature, and engage in civic planning when they were excluded from other local social circles. Architect Alberto Treganza modeled the design after the Prairie School style, aiming to create a space that felt both domestic and intellectual.
