The Thomas S. Monson Center features a mansard roof and ornate red brickwork that stands out against the modern skyline of Salt Lake City. Originally built as the private residence of John W. Young, the son of Brigham Young, the structure reflects his desire to recreate the architectural styles he observed while traveling in Europe. Young ran out of funds before he could complete the interior, and the building eventually became a hub for university administration and public gatherings.
