Salt Lake Masonic Temple

The Salt Lake Masonic Temple stands out with its heavy, rusticated sandstone walls and an imposing, fortress-like facade. Completed in nineteen twenty-seven, this building serves as the central gathering place for various Masonic bodies in Utah. During construction, the Masons insisted on using local materials, hauling massive blocks of Utah sandstone to create a structure that felt rooted in the landscape. Architect Scott and Welch incorporated Egyptian and Mayan motifs into the stone carvings, reflecting a fascination with ancient architectural mystery.
