Governor's Mansion

historic

The Kearns Mansion stands out on East South Temple with its massive, rough-hewn exterior of pale Utah sandstone and a distinct, wide-arched carriage entrance. Built by mining magnate Thomas Kearns in nineteen oh two, the house functioned as a private palace for a family that made a fortune in the Silver King Mine. A fire destroyed much of the interior in nineteen ninety-three, but crews restored the original mahogany woodwork and gold leaf ceilings to their gilded age luster.
