A bronze statue of Brigham Young stands atop a granite pedestal at the intersection of Main and South Temple streets. It features the Mormon leader dressed in a frock coat, holding a cane in one hand and pointing toward the Salt Lake Valley with the other. Cyrus Dallin sculpted the figure for the eighteen ninety-three Chicago World’s Fair. After the fair, the monument moved to this spot, marking the place where Young famously declared this the site for the new settlement.
