City Creek Park

City Creek Park follows the jagged, natural path of the canyon drainage as it drops toward the valley floor. Stone retaining walls line the creek bed, built during the Great Depression by the Works Progress Administration. These masonry channels were designed to tame the seasonal runoff from the Wasatch Range that once flooded the early pioneer settlement. Today, the water flows over smooth rocks and beneath footbridges, providing a quiet, shaded corridor of trees in the middle of the city grid.
