Assembly Hall

The Assembly Hall on Temple Square stands out because of its six tall, pointed spires and its dark gray quartz stone walls. Built in eighteen eighty-two, the building provided a place for local congregations to hold services while the massive temple nearby took decades to finish. Architect Obed Taylor designed it using salvaged stones from the construction of that nearby temple. While the original design featured simpler lines, later renovations added the elaborate Victorian spires that define its silhouette against the mountain backdrop.
