Plum Alley once functioned as the core of Salt Lake City's Chinatown, a narrow passage where Chinese immigrants established businesses, homes, and a community temple. During the late nineteenth century, laborers who finished work on the transcontinental railroad and the nearby mines settled here to operate laundries, restaurants, and grocery stores. While the physical structures vanished decades ago, the alley remains a quiet corridor between Main and State Streets, marking the location where these early residents built a life within the city.
