Salt Lake City Tabernacle

The Salt Lake Tabernacle wears a low, oblong roof covered in gray shingles that curves down like the back of a giant turtle. Inside, this unique shape creates acoustics so precise that a pin dropped at the pulpit hits the back wall with an audible click. Builders constructed it without iron nails, using instead large wooden dowels and rawhide straps to join the massive timber trusses. It remains a space designed specifically for the human voice to carry without any amplification at all.
