Fairview Walkway

The Fairview Walkway clings to the eastern shore of Lake Union on a series of wooden pilings. This stretch of boardwalk grew from a collection of private boat moorings and industrial slips into a public connection between floating homes and the water. In the nineteen seventies, the city faced pressure to secure public access to the shoreline. Engineers constructed this path to bridge the gap between private property and the lake, allowing anyone to walk directly over the dark water of the harbor.
