Historic Ships Wharf

The Historic Ships Wharf features a collection of tall masts and weathered wooden hulls moored directly against the concrete bulkhead of South Lake Union. This is the home base for the Northwest Seaport, where maritime vessels survive by remaining functional rather than sitting as static museum exhibits. In nineteen thirty-three, the tugboat Arthur Foss gained fame for towing a barge of fuel and supplies across the Pacific to Wake Island, defying an approaching typhoon that sank other ships in the convoy.
