The terra cotta facade of eighty-one Vine Lofts features a repetitive pattern of arched windows and deep brick detailing that separates it from the neighboring glass towers. Built in nineteen thirteen, the structure originally functioned as a stable and carriage house for horses hauling heavy freight through Seattle. The building served the bustling industrial waterfront until the internal combustion engine rendered the space obsolete. It stood empty for decades before a renovation converted the historic shell into residential lofts during the mid-two thousands.
