Smith Tower

The Smith Tower wears a pointed white pyramid roof that stays visible across the entire Seattle skyline. Completed in nineteen fourteen, the tower served as the tallest building west of the Mississippi River for nearly fifty years. Lyman Cornelius Smith, a typewriter magnate from New York, funded the project to show off his wealth. During Prohibition, the top floor housed a secret speakeasy where patrons watched the city through the glass while police raided the businesses down on the street level.
