Pier 62

A wide concrete expanse stretches toward the waters of Elliott Bay, marked by a massive, rusted steel sculpture that looks like a skeletal ribcage rising from the deck. This is Pier Sixty-Two, a former industrial shipping terminal stripped down to its pilings and rebuilt as a public park. In the nineteen seventies, the city bought these piers to clear away decaying maritime infrastructure. While the rest of the waterfront grew tall with buildings, this space remains open to the cold salt air.
