Hing Hay Park

Hing Hay Park features a bright red, ornate Chinese pavilion that rises above the surrounding neighborhood. This structure arrived in Seattle in pieces from Taipei in nineteen seventy-five as a gift to the city. Before this public space opened, the lot held the Atlas Hotel, a residential building for immigrants that burned down in a devastating fire in the early nineteen seventies. The community pushed to turn the scorched ground into a place for neighbors to gather, play mahjong, and celebrate festivals.
