The Seattle Great Wheel

The Seattle Great Wheel hangs over the waters of Elliott Bay, supported by a steel pier that extends forty feet beyond the edge of the shoreline. When it opened in twenty twelve, the construction crew completed the entire structure in just under a year. During the final stages, engineers welded the gondolas onto the rotating frame while the wheel itself was slowly turned by heavy machinery. It replaced the site of an old amusement park pier that had sat largely vacant for decades.
