The corner of Pike Place and Stewart Street features a low brick building with a green-painted facade and the name Corner Market embossed in stone above the entrance. It replaced a chaotic collection of open-air stalls when it opened in nineteen twelve to provide a permanent home for local farmers. Frank Goodwin, the man behind the project, insisted that stalls remain free of rent for the growers. He argued that middleman fees drove prices too high for families living in the city.
