International Fountain

The International Fountain sits as a massive, concrete bowl dominated by a bristling, silver-tipped nozzle array that fires water in shifting, rhythmic patterns. Built for the nineteen sixty-two World's Fair, it was designed to represent the space age, with engineers calibrating the jets to move in sync with classical music. During the opening ceremonies, the system malfunctioned, spraying the crowd instead of the sky. Today, the water pressure remains powerful enough to knock a person off their feet.
