The shop sits on Pier Fifty-four with a roofline crowned by a wooden carved totem pole and a storefront window filled with shrunken heads. Joseph Standley opened the doors in eighteen ninety-nine, after spending years trading with Indigenous peoples in Alaska and British Columbia. He filled the space with oddities collected from his travels, ranging from whale bones to taxidermy. The family still runs the business today, keeping the original cabinets packed with curious artifacts from across the globe.
