Jimi Hendrix Statue

The Jimi Hendrix statue on Broadway captures the guitarist mid-solo, his fingers locked onto the neck of his Stratocaster. Sculptor Daryl Smith finished the bronze piece in nineteen ninety-seven, placing Hendrix in a permanent crouch on a pedestal of granite. When the city first proposed the memorial, some locals protested the idea of honoring a rock star with a formal statue. They argued his music defied the traditional monument. The sculptor ignored them, and Hendrix continues to play to the passing traffic.
