Parque Central de San José

The iron kiosk in the center of Parque Central de San José arrived from Belgium in eighteen ninety-six. It sits on a base of heavy masonry and features ornate cast-iron columns that support a domed roof. When it first opened, the park served as the town’s primary gathering ground, where brass bands played on Sunday afternoons. Today, the square remains the site of public protest and traditional dance performances, anchored by the kiosk that defines the park’s silhouette against the busy city streets.
