Alcazar (Paris)

historic

The Alcazar in the tenth arrondissement keeps a grand, glass-roofed interior that feels like a quiet indoor garden, even though it started as a boisterous music hall. In eighteen seventy-four, this was a legendary venue where the cabaret singer Thérésa performed for sold-out crowds. She made her name here by shouting her songs rather than singing them, shocking the polite society of the era. The building eventually transformed from a theater into a restaurant, yet the high, arched ceiling remains.
