Musée national Gustave Moreau

The Musée national Gustave Moreau features a spiral staircase of wrought iron that winds through the heart of a typical Parisian townhouse. Gustave Moreau lived and worked here until his death in eighteen ninety-eight. He spent his final years meticulously organizing his thousands of paintings and drawings, convinced that his legacy depended on keeping his body of work together in one place. He willed the house and its entire contents to the French state, turning his domestic living space into his own permanent gallery.
