Ministry of the Navy (France)

The Hotel de la Marine features a massive, colonnaded stone facade stretching along the Place de la Concorde. Ange-Jacques Gabriel designed this palace in the mid-eighteenth century to hold the royal furniture collection. During the French Revolution, the building became the headquarters for the Ministry of the Navy. In seventeen ninety-two, thieves slipped into the building and stole the priceless French Crown Jewels from the very rooms where officials worked. The ministry stayed here until twenty fifteen, when the navy moved out.
