historic

The Centre Culturel Irlandais occupies the old Collège des Irlandais, a grand stone building with a quiet, tree-filled courtyard tucked away behind a high wall on the Rue des Irlandais. Since the mid-seventeenth century, this site housed Irish priests and students who were barred from education in their home country due to the Penal Laws. Today, the library retains shelves of ancient, leather-bound theological texts, while the residents are poets, painters, and musicians continuing a centuries-old tradition of Irish presence in Paris.
